Lives and works in New York, NY

Edgard Barbosa is a Brazilian contemporary artist based in New York, focusing on collage and design. His primary interest lies in examining the role of commercial imagery and messaging in shaping memory and identity.

His collage work explores deconstruction as a means to understand and reflect the fragmented spaces where memories reside in our minds. Edgard explores how commercial images permeate memories, emotionally intertwining with personal moments to shape identity, self-expression, and a broader worldview.

His collage process involves a multi-step approach that begins with an origami-like technique he developed, known as 'korigami,' achieving abstraction through folding rather than conventional cutting methods.

Influenced by the digitization of analog media in the 2000s and inspired by Brazilian modernist visual language, including moderns like Oscar Niemeyer and Athos Bulcão, Edgard investigates the modernist interplay of universal and regional vocabularies, exploring how commercial imagery permeates personal and national narratives.

His works have been shown in Ki Smith Gallery, Soft Times Gallery, Dodomu Gallery and more.
